Snowbasin offers some of the most breathtaking views and wildlife viewing in Utah! Be on the lookout for moose among the wildflowers and trees, red-tailed hawks soaring high or nesting atop the trees, and delightful yellow-bellied marmots peeking out of their homes in the rocks across the upper mountain. Snowbasin is also home to many bird species, including the mountain bluebird, warbling vireo, western tanager, yellow warbler, and many more!
More than 2,500 moose make their home across Northern Utah, with part of this population residing in or around Snowbasin Resort.
Mountain bluebirds' favorite dining options from spring through fall include beetles and grasshoppers, especially caterpillars. During the winter months, they typically eat seeds, small fruits such as grapes and cedar berries, and occasionally insects if they are active.

Unlike humans, whose vision spans 180 degrees, these deer boast a remarkable 310-degree field of vision, granting them better awareness of their surroundings.
The North American porcupine possesses about 30,000 hair-like quills that feature minute barbs. Contrary to popular belief, porcupines cannot and will not shoot these quills when in danger.
Yellow-bellied marmots often burrow and take shelter in coarse rocky areas near grassy meadows, where they feed on various grasses, seeds, and flowers.
Up on the cliffs of Mount Ogden, you might see mountain goats roaming around, searching for food or climbing high to avoid predators.
Wild turkeys are frequently spotted along Snowbasin Road, so be on the lookout while you drive in!
Red-tailed hawks are the second largest hawk species in North America, behind the ferruginous hawk, with an average length of 17.7 to 22.1 inches, a weight of 1.5 to 2.8 pounds, and a wingspan of 44.9 to 52.4 inches.
While wandering through our trails, keep an eye out for chipmunks in and around the trees and wooded areas across the mountain.
