Snowbasin Resort Kicks Off Snowmaking for 2021-2022 Winter Season

Fresh off of its No. 8 placement in SKI Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Resort Rankings, Snowbasin Resort kicked off its snowmaking efforts in anticipation of the 2021-2022 Winter Season after cold temperatures created ideal conditions over the past 24 hours. The official start of Snowbasin Resort’s ski and snowboard season will be announced soon, with multiple improvements in place to enhance the guest experience.

Snowbasin features one of the most advanced snowmaking systems in the country and has made several recent improvements. Over the past summer, Snowbasin replaced the snowmaking pipe in the Strawberry Gondola area to increase efficiency and improve snow quality. In 2019, Snowbasin added snowmaking to Mt. Ogden Road to allow for earlier season opening of John Paul Express.

Snowbasin recently announced development plans that include snowmaking in the resort’s expanded Ridgeline area, which will add beginner terrain with more convenient access to the parking areas. However, not all resort upgrades are snowmaking-related.

For the upcoming season, Snowbasin Resort is upgrading its popular Middle Bowl Chairlift from a fixed-grip triple to a Leitner-Poma high-speed six-person express lift that will shorten the ride time from 12 minutes to less than six. The updated Middle Bowl Express will feature a new top terminal that will unload above Needles Lodge with easy access to the lodge as well as intermediate, advanced and remote runs including Sweet Revenge, Moose Mound, and Philpot Ridge, respectively.

Plus, Snowbasin Resort is opening an additional 341 free parking spots within the Maples and Canyon Rim parking areas, further building upon its recognition as one of the most accessible ski resorts in the west.

“It always feels as if the winter season unofficially begins with the start of snowmaking,” said Davy Ratchford, General Manager of Snowbasin Resort. “With anticipation for a big winter ahead, Snowbasin is peaking with excitement over our improved snowmaking capabilities, guest access, and the upgraded Middle Bowl Express. Opening Day is right around the corner and we look forward to welcoming our pass holders and guests back to the resort.”

Now is a great time to buy a season pass at Snowbasin with preseason pricing available until November 30.  With the aforementioned improvements and Opening Day right around the corner, be ready for winter with a season pass. To learn more visit www.snowbasin.com or call 801-620-1000.
