Snowbasin's Michael Rueckert Named Marketing Disruptor of the Year

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - February 8, 2024 - Snowbasin Resort's Director of Marketing, Michael Rueckert, was named Marketing Disrupter of the Year at the 2024 Utah Business Sales & Marketer of the Year Awards. Under his oversight, Snowbasin's reputation has grown into one of the most highly regarded winter destinations in North America.

The award comes following a successful 'Go North' marketing campaign that significantly expanded the resort's presence in Salt Lake City by leveraging sophisticated digital targeting alongside statement outdoor placements to attract visitors in the highly competitive market, where over 10 resorts are located within a one hour drive. The campaign gained notoriety with a custom-built billboard in downtown Salt Lake City that added dimensional extensions to resemble the shape of an arrow, pointing north towards the resort. Snowbasin's marketing team was also awarded Best Outdoor Advertising Campaign at the same ceremony by Utah Business for their efforts, that also included placements at the Salt Lake International Airport, University of Utah Campus, Park City, and Big Cottonwood Canyon.

This contributed to Snowbasin's strongest years on record in their 83-year history, driving meaningful business growth. Snowbasin has become one of the fastest-growing brands in the ski industry, reaching No. 1 the following season in several consumer preference rankings, including USAToday, Outside and SKI Magazine.

Michael Rueckert joined Snowbasin in 2019 after working in the University of Utah Athletics' Department as Associate Director of Marketing and Fan Experience, where he oversaw 12 sports over a six year span. Under his oversight, Utah Football sold out 57-straight games and embarked on an $80 million stadium expansion, and Utah Gymnastics set multiple NCAA records as the highest-attended women's team in all of college sports. He remains connected to the university as an Adjunct Professor in the David Eccles School of Business, teaching a marketing course he designed for sports, outdoors, and tourism marketing.
